All Time Favorite Family Portrait

I don’t say favorite family portrait often because I have A LOT of favorites! Usually whatever session I’m working on is my “favorite” because I get so emotionally invested in my sessions/families and want them all to be perfect. But there was something about this family portrait that felt a little bit like magic. The light was gorgeous, the temperature was perfect, the outfits were great, the girls were happy, the parents clearly love their life and I could feel it the whole time. I even said during the shoot that it might be my favorite session of the year and I do NOT say that. I like to manage expectations so even if everything is going great, I don’t want to build it up too much because I want to really wow people when they see the final product. This was different though and I even called RoseAnn after to tell her how awesome it was!

Fast forward to the ordering appointment a couple weeks later and RoseAnn is meeting with Kate while I’m editing in the back and I hear something so incredible it made me cry. It still does when I think about it because it validated how I feel about my work. Kate said that she used some of the money from her inheritance from her Nana to pay for the session and album. I have never heard anything more rewarding in my life, because that is how much I value photography and the memories it creates for a lifetime, but not everybody feels that way. Kate used her inheritance to create a family heirloom that her own grandchildren will look at one day. What a gift! She also said that she feels Nana is with her often and I have to say I think she was with us that day too.
